Our Mission

Funded by a $1.667 million major capitalization grant from the University of California, Irvine (UCI) Office of Research in August of 2019, our mission is to develop a UCI Behavioral Neuroscience Testing Core.

As things progress, the UCI Behavioral Neuroscience Testing Core aims to provide the following services for behavioral testing of rats and mice to Investigators inside and outside of UCI:

  1. Anxiety/Depression (i.e. open field, elevated plus maze, forced swim test, sucrose preference, light/dark box)

  2. Learning/Memory (i.e. Morris Water Maze, novel object recognition, fear conditioning, T-maze, operant touch-screen systems, spontaneous alternation, conditioned taste aversion, inhibitory avoidance, Barnes maze)

  3. Social (i.e. social interaction/recognition, social transmission of food preference, aggression)

  4. Sensorimotor (i.e. Rotarod, gait analysis, balance beam, hot plate, tail immersion, grid walking, treadmill system)
